Aberdeen AberNAS N20C featuring OSNEXUS Quantastor Grid technology enables the provisioning of scale-out Network Attached Storage (NAS) shares that are accessible using standard CIFS/SMB and NFS protocols as well as via the GlusterFS client protocol for maximum performance. Aberdeen’s Scale-out NAS is ideal for data, backup and archive, and media use cases. Read/write performance via CIFS/NFS can be improved through the use of SSDs as read/write cache. For deployments accessing scale-out NAS storage from Linux, the native GlusterFS client provides the best performance as I/O can be directed to the correct appliance without an intermediary hop.
Simplified Management with Grid Technology
The AberNAS N20C’s QuantaStor Grid management technology enables companies to start small and grow to hyper-scale with ease. Grids greatly simplify management by linking appliances together so that they can be managed as a single unit. Appliances within a grid can be comprised of a heterogeneous mix of hardware from different vendors and may include multiple independent scale-out NAS clusters.
Smart Layout, Smart Provisioning
The AberNAS N20C’s GlusterFS combines “bricks” of storage into volumes which are accessible as a “single-namespace”. This can be a complex and error prone task when done manually using low-level GlusterFS tools but QuantaStor makes it easy. Brick creation, selection, data placement and distribution calculations are all done automatically to ensure dispersal of data across the volume. With just a few clicks, users are able to provision new scale-out NAS storage with data replication or an erasure coding layout policy.
Traditional file protocols like NFS and SMB are point-to-point between each client and a specific NAS appliance IP address. In order to ensure that these clients are able to continue accessing the scale-out NAS storage in the event of a hardware outage, the IP address must be virtual and must float to another NAS cluster member automatically. Aberdeen’s system allows an admin to associate a Gluster Virtual IP address to any scale-out NAS volume. This can also be used to load-balance traffic by directing specific clients to specific virtual IPs.
