Aberdeen AberNAS N-Series for Windows have been designed for use with the latest Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 R2. Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 offers a number of greatly enhanced capabilities and benefits when compared with previous versions. Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 delivers excellent economics for a shared storage solution by gaining leverage from industry-standard hardware matched with robust storage capabilities. It delivers continuous availability that is designed to protect organizations from a range of failures and to help prevent downtime, and it offers organizations a scalable and reliable solution. Other new features include next generation processors, improved expansion bus tecnology, greater memory capacity and more efficient power supplies.

AberNAS N49W Highlights

The AberNAS N49W is a 4U dual-sided top loading storage server that features 78 (70 top and 8 rear) hot-swap 3.5″/2.5″ hard drive bays for data storage and 2 additional rear hot swap SSD drives for the OS drives. The N49W is part of the first generation of AberNAS to feature Intel E5 2600 v4 Series Xeon processors based on exciting new Broadwell architecture. With support for up to 1TB of DDR4 memory, dual 10GbE LAN port option, PCI Express 3.0 expansion slots, and 78 HDD in only 4U of space, the N49W is truely our most storage dense rackmount server to date.

Tailored to meet the growing storage capacity demand in hyper scale datacenter, the AberNAS N49W equips up to seventy-eight hot-swappable and screw-less 3.5″ or 2.5″ drives into an ultra-dense 4U chassis. Capable of delivering up to 624 terabytes of storage in one system, the N49W efficiently serves the most demanding cloud storage environments. With innovated screw-less hard drive carrier design, the AberNAS N49W can be serviced in a fraction of the time compared to typical chassis.

E5-2600 v4 Xeon processor and DDR4-2400 memory support

More execution resources for higher overall performance. With up to 22 cores per socket, up to 55 MB of last-level cache (LLC), and support for up to 12 percent faster DDR4 memory versus previous-generation memory, the Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v4 product family increases performance across a broad range of workloads, from business and technical computing applications to communications and storage solutions. These processors come in a wide variety of configurations, so core counts, frequencies, and power levels can be tailored for individual workloads to deliver optimal performance.

Storage Protocols iSCSI Target Server -Improvements to iSCSI Target Server include support for VHDx (VHD 2.0) virtual hard disks for capacities of up to 64 TB. iSCSI Target Server also now supports SMI-S, enabling end-to-end provisioning using System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
SMB – Improvements to the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol include better SMB Direct performance, automatic rebalancing for Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) on scale-out file servers, shared VHDx files, Hyper-V Live Migration over SMB, SMB bandwidth management, detailed event messages, and more.
Data Access and Replication Work Folders – A new feature that facilitates the BYOD (bring-your-own-device) scenario by enabling users to access work files from their personal computers and devices. Organizations retain centralized control over their data and can specify device policies such as encryption and lock screen password.
DFS Replication – Enhancements include increases in scalability, the ability to do database cloning and corruption recovery, a Windows PowerShell module, a new WMI provider, faster replication on high bandwidth connections, and recovery tools for conflicts.
Continuous Availability Failover Clustering – Enhancements include improvements to virtual machine availability, Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV), dynamic cluster quorums, cluster node health detection, deployment, updating and monitoring.
Hyper-V – Enhancements include shared virtual hard disks, resizing of virtual hard disks while a VM is running, storage quality of service (QoS), improved performance for live migrations, cross-version live migrations, and several more new or improved capabilities.
Scalability Improvements Storage Spaces – Enhancements include storage tiering, SSD write-back caches for storage spaces, parity storage spaces on failover clusters, dual parity storage spaces, and faster rebuilding of storage spaces after disk failures.
Data Deduplication – Enhancements include support for Cluster Shared Volumes and deduplication of live Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) VMs that reside on a file server connected via SMB.
Deployment and Management OEM Appliance OOBE (out-of-the-box experience) – Enhancements include added support for four-node cluster deployments and a wizard for creating a domain controller within a Hyper-V VM that can be used to deploy a turnkey cluster-in-a-box.
Storage Management API – Enhancements include an improved Storage Management API enables 10x faster enumerations, added cluster-awareness, and remote management for Storage Spaces new features.
