Hybrid Storage Consolidated SAN-Tiers with Powerful Scalability
The new XDAS D-Series Hyrbid model features both four 8Gb/ Fibre Channel (FC) host ports and two 1GbE iSCSI host ports and a new SAS2.0 6G hard drive backplane. This combination enables SMBs to deploy FC SANs delivering outstanding price-performance and achieve highly cost-effective remote replication with the iSCSI ports. The enterprise-class data protection and exceptional performance of the XDAS D-Series Hybrid powered by the next-generation RAID engine is ideal for mission-critical environments. When data grows out of the capacity threshold of a single subsystem, you can scale it up to an installation housing more than one hundred drives through expansion enclosures. The no-delay, smooth operations it enables can satisfactorily meet the service levels your business requires. Coupled with the broad support for enterprise-level OS and server virtualization, it can serve as data storage for top-tier applications.
High-Availability SAN Delivers Great Price-Performance
Data availability is critical to any business operation. Aberdeen's XDAS D-Series storage solution features high-availability hardware designs with redundant, hot-swappable hardware components, such as RAID controllers, power supplies and cooling fans to eliminate single point of failure. Hardware RAID protection ensures data accessibility during drive failure. In the event of a power outage, CacheSafe technology will automatically leverage power of the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) to safeguard cached data by writing it to the flash module for permanent retention. To protect valuable data sets against more critical threats, the D-Series also supports local and remote replication capabilities. Data availability can be achieved with minimal downtime in case of human errors or data volume failure by employing D-Series replication features. Leveraging Infortrend's world class RAID engine and Fibre Channel protocol, XDAS D-Series storage solutions deliver breakthrough performance for demanding business applications. The models supporting Small Form Factor (SFF) drives can further increase performance density to support highly IO-intensive applications.
Flexible Scalability
The XDAS D-Series storage solution supports dynamic scaling to aid in the planning for future storage growth while satisfying the current storage needs. Flexible drive type and capacity support (2.5-inch or 3.5-inch, SAS or FC, and various drive sizes) satisfies current applications and enables you to accommodate future needs. D-Series storage solutions can be expanded to more than two hundred drives to meet the proliferation of storage growth. The “scale as you grow” flexibility of the D-Series storage solution minimizes the upfront investment and provides the best overall Total Cost of Acquisition (TCA).
Intuitive and Easy Management
Storage management should be simple. The XDAS D-Series storage solution includes a comprehensive management software suite, SANWatch, to centrally manage multiple D-Series subsystems over a standard TCP/IP network. Status and event information summary can be viewed on the portal window. Necessary functions to configure, manage and monitor the D-Series are only a few clicks away. Besides providing all firmware features through a user-friendly GUI, SANWatch also supports script-based configuration of multiple XDAS D-Series subsystems simultaneously. Automatic critical event notifications can be customized to suit the most critical storage environment. SANWatch will guide users through initializing, configuring and maintaining the EonStor DS every step of the way.
High Energy Efficiency
Contributing to environmental sustainability, the XDAS D-Series storage solution enables energy cost-savings while maintaining performance. It is equipped with power saving designs such as high-efficiency power supplies, dynamic cooling mechanism and intelligent multi-level drive spin-down technology.
Higher Reliability and Better Performance:
2.5-inch Small Form Factor Disk Drives are designed for environment requiring higher reliability and higher I/O density. The benefits of 2.5" disk drives are obvious:
- 70% smaller: Think about the estimated $1000 cost per square foot in an average data center. Now you can install 2.5 times of hard drives in the same data center footprint.
- Consumes 40% less power: In addition to cost reduction, less power means a cooler enclosure, and therefore a higher overall reliability.
Lower Total Cost of Ownership:
Compact in Size:
SFF 2.5-inch disk drives are simply smaller than their 3.5-inch counterparts. That means more disk drives can be integrated in the disk array enclosures. For example, an Aberdeen XDAS 2U enclosure houses 24 2.5-inch disk drives while the same number of 3.5-inch disk drives requires a 4U-profile enclosure. This density edge dramatically improves space utilization efficiency.
Power Consumption and Heat Generation:
SFF 2.5-inch disk drives consume 45% less power than their 3.5-inch counterparts. They run cooler with reduced airflow requirements, which also decrease the chance of encountering thermal issues and the cost on providing airflow ventilation.
Shock Tolerance:
Shorter and stiffer actuator, smaller discs, and a compact motor increases its tolerance to shock and vibration, and hence more reliable in operation.
Less Vibration When Spinning:
Spinning multiple drives in a RAID enclosure can introduce interference from the seek acceleration by one drive seeking data to another that is writing. The transmitted vibration can cause retries and hence the overall array performance can be affected. In a high-transaction rate and random-access environment with intensive seek operations, the potential performance loss can be mended by 2.5-inch disk drives. 2.5-inch drives do not generate sufficient vibration during seeks to degrade the overall performance.

Local Replication
In business-critical environments, users require strong protection for their valuable data sets. To help users protect data in the most efficient way, local replication leverages the power of XDAS storage systems to provide snapshot and volume copy/mirror capabilities. With space-saving snapshot copies, users can easily restore files or rollback data as necessary. With the full data copies, users can quickly restore service when a RAID-protected volume fatally fails.

Increased
availability |
Immediately use disk-based full data copies to support applications when source
data volume fails; constantly mirrored copies minimize data loss
Restore files and roll back data in seconds; data is protected from accidental or
malicious losses to ensure the highest system availability |
Data protection

while consuming minimum disk space and performance by storing only data changes |
Flexible data
copy deployment |
Split and re-sync mirroring between source and copy as business needs require;
flexibly leverage independent copies of production data for secondary applications |
Remote Replication Option
Remote replication leverages the power of storage systems to copy data between storage pools or systems in IP or FC SAN at different sites. When source data fails due to system malfunction or accidents, users can leverage the disk-based remote copy to restart service in minutes. If users would like to transfer responsibility back to the source, it can be quickly synced with the remote copy for only differentials. To further ensure the integrity of the remote data, remote replication allows users to protect the remote copy with snapshot technology. Granular snapshot images can help restore the corrupt remote copy in seconds when it is required to resume business service.

Thin Provisioning
Thin provisioning technology allows users to allocate a large amount of virtual capacity for an application server regardless of the physical capacity actually available. Actual space is used only when data writes occur. By automatically allocating system capacity to applications as needed, thin provisioning technology can significantly increase storage utilization. Thin provisioning also greatly simplifies capacity planning and management tasks. Thin provisioning enables you to purchase only the disk capacity you actually need. This means no more up-front capacity allocation, no more dedicating resources for each application, and no more paying for power and cooling of disks you may not need for months or years to come.

“Just-in-time” capacity allocations helps Increase storage utilization up to 80%-90% |
| Reduced costs |
