SASSY! SAS Storage
Speed + Quad-Core Power
Aberdeen Stirling Quad-Core Servers Deliver Unquestioned Performance
Santa Fe Springs, California, Nov. 15, 2006- Aberdeen
LLC, the Custom Server Solution Provider and Supermicro Computer, Inc.,
a leading manufacturer of high-quality motherboards, have joined forces
to deliver innovative SAS storage solutions. Featuring the Quad-Core
Intel® Xeon® Processor 5300 Series, Aberdeen's Stirling storage servers
cater to the needs of the streaming media and digital video server
markets.
The award-winning Aberdeen Stirling line of rackmount
servers and storage solutions utilize the Intel® Xeon® Quad-Core
Processor 5300 Series to combine cutting edge processor technology
performance, high-efficient power consumption and reliability into every
customizable server. Together with the superb SAS storage server designs
from Supermicro, Aberdeen offers its high demanding 2U multi-core
Stirling 228Q rackmount server. The Stirling 228Q server not only can
provide up to 6TB of pure SATA II storage, it may also be used to
deliver optimum drive performance by utilizing SAS disk drives. In
addition to providing SAS storage and quad-core performance the Stirling
228Q also offers the reliability of a redundant 700W power supply.
The Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5300 Series -
(previously codenamed “Clovertown”) is a multi-tasking monster. The true
value of multi-processing is that a single server/workstation can take
on several tasks at the same time such as rendering, real-time
streaming, or 3D modeling with significant improvements in system
responsiveness by off-loading certain tasks to specific cores. For the
designer or editor, physics, AI, and rendering can all be improved while
maintaining frame rates, whilst data access and transfer speeds are
improved with the emergence of SAS disk drives. The net advantage is
that this innovative technology frees up additional processor resources
for other tasks and improves productivity.
“Intel and Aberdeen both work to develop cutting-edge
solutions for server customers," said Boyd Davis, general manager,
Intel’s Server Platform Group Marketing. “Aberdeen Stirling servers take
advantage of the industry leading performance delivered by the new
Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors to provide server and storage solutions
that provide more performance, enable more efficiency and deliver more
dependability."
New advancements to the Aberdeen Stirling server line
feature; quad-core processor support up to a 1066Mhz front side bus, low
130W energy consumption, 8MB L2 Smart Cache, redundant power chassis,
3Gb/s SAS hard drive technology, and fully-buffered DIMM DDR2 memory.
FB-DIMM memory delivers up to four times the capacity and is critical
for creating balanced platforms utilizing multiple cores and the latest
technologies, such as virtualization.
"Along with our industry leading 5-Year Warranty,
Aberdeen can provide a distinct advantage by utilizing the performance
leading Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors within our complete line of
Stirling server solutions and AberNAS Network-Attached Storage
appliances" states Moshe Ovadya, President of Aberdeen.
The performance leading Stirling multi-core SAS
servers deliver radically increased throughput capability and
reliability. Starting around the $2000 mark the Stirling 128Q 1U server
provides high-performance in a space saving cluster friendly rack-dense
space. The robust Stirling 228Q will also support dual quad-core Intel
Xeon processors, up to 32MB of FBDIMM memory and provide up to 2.4TB of
ultra SAS storage.
